They expect you to pay for everything. Dinner, movie, amusement park. It's all on you. There's no splitting the bill. Throwing a tantrum to get what they want. They think it's cute, Sajiao". Mercenary. They don't know how to hold an interesting conversation beyond food, money, job, house car etc. (those aren't interesting subjects to begin with) and they are very, very attentive to your hukou and income, quite often you could tell they were working their way up to those lines of questions. Insipid. Especially the overachiever, straight-A student kind. They can live in the States for like 15 years but never went to a bar once. NO, NOT EVEN ONCE. No parties. No socializing, no nothing. School, then work. Yea they have pictures of themselves scuba diving in Florida or Skiing in Switzerland but are those their hobbies? Nope. Because photoops aren't hobbies. Some of them mistake bitchy and unreasonable for "having a personality". Merit-based partner seeking. This one is the worst of all IMHO, I actually can put up with all the above but this one? Nah-ah. Basically they think a diploma from Ivy League schools should come off as "alluring". My friend once got a message on weChat like this: "Hi I graduated Wharton Business school bachelor CMU economics with 7 years experience in Merrill Lynch NYC both of my parents are retired management staff of State Grid, I have returned last year to be with my parents and my income currently stands at 650,000 RMB a year, you?" My friend just so happened to be the maliciously playful kind and replied "Hi I went to a community college in Nebraska because my parents donated a library I barely got my degree let alone getting transferred to a real uni I returned to China right after college because I couldn't land a job in the states and I'm a placeholder manager at my dad's company I'm still learning excel magic and my dad gives me a token stipend of 4000 yuan a month but it's never enough so I have to borrow from my friends all the time" In reality my friend drives a boxter that he himself hard-earned by managing a name brand cosmetic retail, 2 franchised restaurants and helping out a shady loan firm he will one day take over. He invests heavily, has multiple sources of income and lives very frugally and often gets me to pay for his cocktails and he graduated the prestigious Marriott School of Business. He was blocked by that girl on we chat of course. Disclaimer: This is just me and my friends' experience and confirmed by some expats who dated Chinese girls, I'm sure there are absolutely amazing Chinese girls out there but just never bumped into them lmbo.
